Before your laser hair removal. Follow these steps:
• The area to be treated must be clean and free from all topical solutions.
• Please shave the area 2-12 hours prior to treatment. Shaving immediately prior to treatment may cause extra sensitivity to the skin and we advise to allow plenty of time prior to appointment.
• Tanned skin can be treated provided the tan is not active. Therefore, avoid direct sun exposure to the area being treated for at least 1 week prior to treatment. Sensitive or sunburned skin will not be treated.
• The use of tanning creams must be discontinued 2 weeks before treatment.
• You must avoid bleaching, plucking or waxing hair for 4 weeks prior to treatment and do not wax, epilate or pluck or remove hair by any other means than shaving during the course of the treatment.
• You must avoid the use of essential oils for 48 hours prior to treatment.
• Do not use depilatory creams 1 week prior to treatment.
• If you have a history of cold sores you may take your usual medication 5 days before and 5 days after treatment. If you have been on antibiotics, we ask that you leave 2 weeks between finishing the course and having a SMARTDiode treatment.
• The laser can cause a mild stinging sensation. If you need to we recommend taking a couple of painkillers an hour before treatment, or you can use a numbing cream on the area.
After your laser hair removal. We ask that you follow these steps:
• In the unlikely event you experience any redness or swelling after your treatment, apply a soothing lotion such as aloe vera or cool pack at home if required.
• We advise that you do not shave or apply deodorants /perfumes to the treated area for 24- 48 hours post treatment.
• We advise that you avoid very hot baths, saunas, hot tubs/jacuzzi, massage treatments or athletic activities for 2-3 days after treatment.
• Your skin may have increased sensitivity to the sun and we recommend that you use a factor 30+ sunscreen and avoid direct sun exposure on the treated area and sunbeds for at least 1 week after your treatment.
• If you experience (rarely) itching in the treated area, avoid scratching the skin. You can take an antihistamine e.g. Piriton to alleviate the irritation.
• We advise not using any skincare that contains AHA, Glycolic Acid, Salicylic Acid or Retinoic Acid (e.g. Retin A) for 3-5 days following treatment.
• We recommend that you always maintain a good skincare routine with frequent hydration or moisturisation on a daily basis.

How does laser hair removal work?

The lasers targets the pigment (melanin) in the hair which adsorbs the energy and converts it into heat. This build up of heat then causes damage to the hair follicle, preventing regrowth! Endorsed by leading medical experts the SMART Diode is safe and highly effective in the treatment of permanent hair reduction for all areas of the face and body.
Who is it suitable for?
We currently offer SMARTDiode laser treatment for Fitzpatrick skin types 1–4. Your skin type and suitability will be assessed during your consultation and patch test. The SMARTDiode technology of low energy pulses allows for the successful treatment on most skin types. Suitable for both women and men, SMARTDiode is the answer!
How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?
Each SMARTDiode treatment affects approximately 30% of the hair within the target area. We recommend a minimum of 6 treatments, with some hair types requiring more. The average for a successful program is 8 treatments. Sometimes a top up is required once a year. Hormones can affect hair growth in the future.
Can I have laser hair removal on tanned skin?
Tanned skin can be treated provided the tan is not active. Therefore, avoid direct sun exposure to the area being treated for at least 1 week prior to treatment. Sensitive or sunburned skin will not be treated.
Can blonde/light/grey/red hair be treated?
Dark blonde hair can be treated but there needs to be enough melanin in the follicle for the laser to destroy the root. Light blondeand grey hair can not be treated, some red hair can if it has more of an auburn undertone.
Does laser hair removal hurt?
Unlike traditional laser or IPL, using high energy levels that may cause discomfort and pain, a SMARTDiode treatment is gentle and comfortable, resulting in a mild stinging or warming of the skin. Our SMARTDiode applicator incorporates active cooling to help improve comfort. Your practitioner will explain what to expect during your consultation.
How long does laser hair removal take?
Using revolutionary ‘Slide & Glide’ delivery, a SMARTDiode treatment is completed in minutes. The treatment applicator is swept back and forth repeatedly across the designated area whist rapid pulses of low energy light are pulsed into the skin ensuring full coverage and effective treatment.
Each treatment depends on the area you are treating. Lip/chin takes only 10 minutes and can be rebooked within 3 weeks. A full leg can take up to an hour and you can rebook after 6 weeks.
Can I shave between treatments?
Yes, you can and should shave between laser hair removal sessions, as it is the only recommended hair removal method during your treatment course.
Can I wax between treatments?
The short answer is no. Laser treatments need a hair root inside the follicle to work. If you wax, the follicle is empty, and the laser energy has nothing to target. This makes your session a waste of time and money. Best to shave between lasering, you will notice a difference very quickly.
